‘Downton Abbey’ star on how she ended up on ‘Downtown Abbey’
This year’s Downton will mark the 20th anniversary of the BBC’s hit TV series.
In this exclusive interview with IGN, actress Sarah Harding talks about her experience of being cast as the iconic role of Miss Bates, the title character on the BBC drama, and how it changed her life.
We’ve been cast to play Miss Bates in Downtons Abbey, and we had a wonderful time, Sarah Harding said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
It was one of the most challenging parts of the process, as well as being incredibly emotionally charged, she added.
When I first got the part of Miss [Bates] I knew immediately that it was going to be a big part of the show, because I have this incredible accent and I have a voice that I’m very comfortable with, so it was just a case of, “I’m going to play this character.”
And the role was really cool because it’s a character that’s iconic.
I’m like, “Oh my God, this is the character!”
I was also really fortunate that the casting director, Dan Trachtenberg, and his team, really took the time to put a great deal of thought into the role, she said.
It really felt like a dream come true.
The show has been a big hit, and now she’s getting her own spin-off series on HBO called Downtont.
This new series, entitled Downtonic, will also include the first ever interview with Sarah Harding, the first episode of which will air in September.
In a previous interview with The Huffington Post, Sarah told IGN that she has a very special place in her heart for the Downtonian universe, and is looking forward to reuniting with her former co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Downtons fans have been waiting for the return of the series since the show premiered in 2011, and the actress revealed she and Cumberbatch have already met to discuss their roles.
“I’m very much looking forward for it, to be honest,” she said of her new series.
“I haven’t met Benedict yet, but he’s been fantastic.
He’s really into it, and it’s been really great working with him.
I’ve got a lot of great memories with him, and I’m really looking forward.”
In addition to her role on the series, Sarah will also appear in upcoming HBO dramas, including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Romeo and Juliet.
It’s been said that the new season of Dunkirk will air on HBO in 2019, and Sarah confirmed that she is currently in talks to appear in that upcoming series.
